Learn To Play Piano

Where Do I Start?

If this is your first time visiting this site, I would suggest that you take a look at the Accessing The Lessons section to learn more about how to access our lessons.

Beginning piano lessons can be challenging. Even if you already know how to read sheet music or have had lessons in the past, coming back to the piano can be both fun and frustrating.

Know that you are not alone. There are thousands of other pianists in the same situation as you. In fact, one of the most common questions I receive is "You have so many piano lessons...where do I start?"

First of all, I want you to know that we are a family business. So, if you get stuck we are a phone call or email away.

Second, I have created some piano lesson bundles that help guide you along a "path". Before I show you the bundles, let's discuss these different paths.

How To Play The Piano...Paths

One of the main reasons that students get frustrated when learning the piano is because they have try to tackle too much at once. Learning the piano takes both time and patience.

It is reasonable to see solid improvement within a few weeks as long as you are practicing 4 or more days a week. Piano practice is only one side of the equation though. The other is the method that you use to learn the piano.

I teach in a way that gets students quickly playing the piano. However, we also cover a lot of theory...but in a fun and approachable manner. This combination of "fun and work" is why my method makes it easier to learn the piano, even if you do not read music or you play the piano by ear.

Most of all, it is important that you remain patient with yourself!

Why Video Piano Lessons Are Better!

Learning how to play the piano through video is not the same as studying with a private teacher...I believe it's better. Let me explain.

I've studied with many fabulous teachers, but never did I leave with the lesson recorded on video with an overhead camera and a virtual keyboard. If I did, I would have been able to learn and retain close to 100% of the lesson. Instead, I feverishly took notes while also trying to pay attention to my teacher.

Studying with a private teacher is important because you receive immediate feedback and learn proper finger technique. However, it can be costly, inconvenient and take longer to learn a concept because you need the teacher to explain it again and again.

I have also seen many students come to my studio to study privately only to say "I can play this better at home." Let's face it, it is no fun to struggle at the piano in front of someone else, let alone your teacher.

Best of all, the piano theory that I will teach you in the lessons can be applied to any teacher's curriculum. This means that you can study with me alongside studying with a private teacher. My method is based on tested piano pedagogy. No playing by numbers, colors or other "gimmicks".

Get The Most Out Of Video Piano Lessons

To fully benefit from video-based piano lessons, I find it helps if you follow these tips:

  • Watch the chapters in order so you do not miss something important
  • When watching chapters, try to take away only one concept to practice
  • Watch the chapter completely before going to the piano
  • Download the sheet music, even if you play piano by ear
  • Make notes for yourself and take them to the piano
  • There are sometimes many concepts covered in one chapter. Use bookmarks to "save your place" so that yo know to come back to that chapter
